PROBLEM

One of our recent clients, a local school, was facing issues with their HVAC system/
Indoor Air quality. The units were too large for the controlled space causing the units to
short cycle and when a unit short cycles it doesn’t sufficiently dehumidify the indoor air
causing excessive humidity. Excessive humidity throughout the school was creating poor
air quality in the living space to the point the walls were wet. Unfortunately, the school’s
leadership had a difficult time finding a qualified contractor to assess the conditioned
space to correct the air quality.

SOLUTION

Our solution started with a comprehensive survey of their system from a local engineering
firm which determined the HVAC system was oversized for the conditioned space. With
direction from the engineer, we installed reheat units to control the humidity from the
oversized units. We then tested the new system and checked humidity levels throughout
the facility and determined the system was functioning within acceptable humidity levels.

RESULT

The improved indoor air quality was immediately appreciated by the building owners. The
client was so satisfied that they also had The Tustin Group install a building automation
system, which would monitor the overall HVAC system and maintain air quality. Plus,
they signed a maintenance agreement with us to make sure we keep everything at peak
performance and catch any future issues before they balloon into expensive projects.
